“New year, new you”
Pictures are here
Ah, the first gig of a new year; an acoustic night downstairs in the cellar bar at The Shed. It all had quite a new feel to it – we premiered High On Life, a brand new song for the audience but actually an older one that we’d added a niddle-8 to and polished up a bit.
It was also the first time that I’d ever worn a Christmas tree on stage. With Christmas in the not so distant past, the decorations were still lying around in The Shed. Dave, the barman, handed it to me before we started playing and, apropos of nothing, I took to waving it around and wearing bits of it on stage. At one point I also forced Ant to wear it as well.
Anyway, here’s the list of Christmas tree tunes:
You Come Around
All I Want
High On Life
Turn It All Around
It’s In The Air
It’s Only Rock ‘n’ Roll
While You Wait
Stu was taking his multi-instrumentalism to new heights by playing a different instrument on each song. Some people may argue that apart from the mandolin and melodic, they could all be grouped together under the description “percussion” but that’s just semantics.
All in all, it was a great night that not only featured a new song but also only the second appearance for Turn It All Around. There were also some other good acts featured and they were all good sports, joining in on percussion and playing along on While You Wait.
Will has also booked us in for this year’s acoustic competition where this whole odyssey started last February. After a couple of weeks off it was great to be playing live again and it was a great start to the new year.
