February Fun

1) Ballad Of The Mighty I – Noel Gallagher’s High Flying Birds

Noely G’s songs are getting worse as he gets older but it’s still fun to play the old, “Who Is Noel Ripping Off This Time? Game” Despite the Nile Rodgers-esque guitar, the answer here is Bus Stop by The Hollies. Although, I can also hear a bit of You Know My Name by Chris Cornell in there too – I guess that Noel was looking for You Know My Name (Look Up The Number) by The Beatles but got confused.

2) American Interior – Gruff Rhys

Gruff was absolutely amazing at The Rescue Rooms earlier this month.

3) Coffee & TV – Blur

Apparently my newish haircut makes me look like Graham Coxon. I’m sure that this is the main reason behind their recent decision to reform. However, talk of new tracks is a little worrying since this is the only really good track that they’ve produced since 1997.

4) What Kind Of Man – Florence + The Machine

I wasn’t too keen on the last Florence album (even though she was amazing when she appeared with The Rolling Stones to sing Gimme Shelter) but I really like this, the new single.

5) Me And Julio Down By The Schoolyard – Paul Simon

Heard this on the radio the other day and it reminded me of driving to Leicester in Stu’s car to play gigs. Stu always had Radio 2 on (apart from a brief obsession with Arrow Classic Rock) and Chris Evans was hosting the Drive Time show at the time. Friday was an all request show and on a couple of occasions, listeners asked for this very song.
